La Campana National Park is located about 2 hours north of Santiago. The Stanford overseas program organized a group outing there last Friday because some students taking a class called "Living Chile" needed to do some field-work there. Lucky for me, anyone else who was interested in tagging along was welcome to join even though we were not enrolled in Living Chile.
That said, about 7 of us were free to spend the afternoon exploring at leisure while the others slaved away collecting samples in the heat. What started out as a shady hike, gradually turned into a sweaty (and prickly!) trek as we created our own trails up one of the larger cactus-covered hills. Although none of us made it without few scratches and snags, the view from high up was worth the effort.
Some Highlights Of The Hike
We even came across some wild cows!
(don't worry- I zoomed in quite a bit when taking this picture so I wasn't actually that close to the cow)
Cacti
