Good Eats!

Between the restaurants and my host mother´s cooking, I´ve particularly been enjoying the food during my trip so far. Below are some of dishes I´ve tried this week.

Lunch at a Cafe

Un Sandwich de Jamon y Muchisimo Queso

¡Lo compre para ti Maya!

My host Mother´s wonderful dishes:

Steak, Fried Rice, and Homemade Strawberry Juice

Ensaldas

The salads in Chile are quite different from in the United States. Here, they tend to be very simple, featuring just 1-3 ingredients (tomato, lettuce, onion). Traditionally, these salads are served plain or sprinkled with balsalmic vinager, olive oil, and salt.

My host Mother made the salad below as a main course at dinner so it included a little more variety. In addition to the tipical ingredientes it had shredded chicken, potato, and carrots.

One other intersting thing to note about Chilean food is that carne (meat) usually only refers to read meat. Pollo (chicken) and pescado (fish) are thought of as separate categories. So, if you tell a Chilean you are vegeterian, they will still think you eat chicken and fish.

Porotos Granados
A bean, pumpkin, sausage, and corn stew that is traditionally served in the Summer months here. Delicious!
