The streets of Santiago are filled with fast-food restaurants. Some of the more popular places include panderias (bakeries) and pizzerias. However, I was also surprised to see how popular hot dogs are here.
Unlike the traditional street carts we have in the United States, the hot dog places here are actually fast-food restaurant-style (think McDonald's, Burger King etc.) One major difference between American hot dogs and Chilean hot dogs too: the condiments. Chileans absolutely love avocado "palta" and mayonnaise "mayo." In addition, the menus at these places also feature a variety of other meats, nacho cheese, diced tomatoes, pickles, relish, ketchup, onions, and mustard, and salsa verde.
