Valdivia is located in Chile's Región de Los Ríos, about a 2.5 hour bus ride south of Temuco. The town famous for being wet and humid and is located on the costanera, or a paved area along one central river. Since Valdivia is further south, I was expecting it to be colder when I visited for the weekend but was pleasantly surprised that it was quite sunny and warm.
As reflected by its architecture, the city also has a lot of European influence, which is actually described quite well in more detail on Wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valdivia and in Spanish at: http://historiadevaldivia-chile.blogspot.com/2010/06/parques-de-valdivia.html
